Quick Interview With Lisa McMann

Lisa McMann agreed to answer a few questions for us! Yep, that Lisa McMann. The author of Wake, Fade, and Gone (which is out in stores in just 8 more days). In case you didn't know, I love this series so being able to interview Lisa was so cool! I tried my best to avoid any questions that had been covered on the FAQ section of her website, so if you'd like to learn more about her, then head on over there.

Why YA? And do you plan to branch out to adult?
That's just what came out when I started writing. Young adults have the most roller coasters. Emotionally, physically -- they are truly the most interesting age group. I love reading YA too. It's compelling stuff. I don't have plans to write for adults (though lots of adults read YA now so in a way I guess I am) but I never rule anything out. I am, however, going to start to write for a slightly younger crowd in 2011 in addition to my yearly young adult novels.

What's your most effective way to get through writers block?
If I'm struggling and can't write, my problem usually is that I need some creative stimulation -- I need to read, or watch a movie. That gets the brain moving again, and it's often quite inspiring. I have to say that the best way to be a better writer is to read more.

Were your characters based off of anyone you know? And which character would you say is most like you?
There are little bits of real people in my characters. Traits of my family members and friends show up in Janie, Cabel, Captain... Which is most like me? Gosh, tough one. Probably Cabel.

What are a few of your personal favorite books?
Recently I've loved The Patron Saint of Butterflies by Cecilia Galante, Fat Cat by Robin Brande, The Dust of 100 Dogs by A.S. King, Crazy Beautiful by Lauren Baratz-Logsted, and Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler.

Thanks again to Lisa for answering the questions, and don't forget to pick up a copy of Gone on the ninth of this month!
