The Downsides to Being a Reader

  • Being tired because I stayed up late reading last night.
  • That feeling I get when I finish one of my favorite series.
  • The lack of room for all of my books.
  • Feeling like I have nothing in common with a person when I find out they don't read.
  • Trying to remember the plot of that book I read two years ago when the sequel comes out.
  • Laughing to myself like a weirdo while reading...in public.
  • Nearly crying--as I never full-on cry--to myself like a crazy person...in public.
  • It's probably the main reason I had to get glasses, according to Mr. Eye Doctor.
  • People in real life usually don't measure up to the people in books.
  • Everyone makes assumptions about me when they hear I'm a reader. (Like, "Omg she's a homeschooled reader she's a freak kids pretend like you can't hear her." ((Not that anything like that's happened to me. But I can SEE the fear in their eyes.)
...Those were all I could come up with. Obviously, I feel the positives outweigh the negatives. A lot.

And now, here's a picture of a German Shepard enjoying said positives:

  1. Awwww what a seriously awesome post and picture.

I am SO with you most of these. Especially the one about not feeling like you know a person once they say they don't read, the plot a year later, and laughing or crying out loud in public.

  2. "Feeling like I have nothing in common with a person when I find out they don't read." <<< So very true. Then there's that uncomfortable moment when you struggle to come up with something to talk about.

    1. YES!

I especially feel weird if they enjoy bragging about how much they DON'T read. "I think I've read like three books lol." Good...for you?

  3. YES!!!

As soon as I find out a person doesn't read, I kind of sniff in disdain and make my excuses to get away. Or I pity them.

    1. This. And really, what are we supposed to talk about if not books? And if I find out we have very different tastes in music, then I usually don't even find an excuse to get away, I just run.

  4. What a cute dog picture. I want it!! But yes, wonderful post and SOOO true. I'm always trying to remember what the book was about when the sequel is released...I read too much to be able to keep up with series well enough. Bit of a problem. LOL

And finding room for all my books is a SERIOUS issue. It's an issue I don't mind having, but still. I'm running out of room here.

    1. Thank you Lauren! :) I get especially lost if a sequel doesn't bother to remind you about the first book's events. Then there is lots of sighing and googling.

I know! My family got a new book shelf just the other day, and we're still stacking books in whatever hidden corners we can find.

  7. I'm pretty sure I could just copy and paste this to my own blog- with exception to the home schooled thing since I'm old and I would only be flattered if someone thought I was young enough to be in graduate school, let alone high school! ;)

  8. Yep. Now add to that the fact that my house is a wreck most of the time because I can't step away from a book long enough to clean it. It's kind of a problem, actually.

  9. "Laughing to myself like a weirdo while reading...in public."
    >>>That happens to me too; but that's because whenever I am into a book is hard for me to put it down.

  10. Cute post! I ALWAYS laugh out loud while reading and ppl think I'm weird!! My husband proudly proclaims that he's never read an entire book, and sometimes I wonder how in the hell we ever got together :) The other thing that sometimes feels like a downside to me is having all these books that I feel I must get to and never can have enough time to read them all because the pile keeps growing!!!!

    1. Thanks! I thought I was the only one that laughs in coffee shops when reading; apparently not! Haha, how DID you get together? ;) That last problem is a big one, too. People sometimes look at me strangely when I tell them I don't have time to read any more books...THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND.

  11. Hah, I agree with ALL these things! Also, failing to notice when someone is speaking to me directly because I'm thinking about the book I'm currently reading and trying to get back to it as soon as possible.
Awesome post! I followed you. :)

    1. Same here! I swear if I'm really into a book, I cannot socially function properly until I finish it.

      Thank you!!

  12. I love this post! I often laugh in public while reading and I try to stop reading if I think I'm about to cry!

    Gorgeous pic!

  13. Everything you just said is true. . . When I finish a good book at school and smile about the ending everyone pretty much stares at mean in an unknown question. I have never really met someone that reads as much as me and actually like it and can have a decent conversation with me about books that can last for hours...
