6 Books I Deperately Want But Don't Want The Cashier To See Me Buying

In case you haven't noticed, I've been getting more and more into contemporary books. I can't get enough of 'em!

But gaaaaaa do some of them have the worst and girliest titles and covers. Some of them are so bad that I don't even want the cashier at the bookstore to see me buying them. Because when I went to buy Pink at a bookstore I got a look. Apparently teen girl with blue hair and Rise Against shirt + girly-sounding book = strange looks from cashiers.

I can't say this is the case with only contemporary books, though. There are some pretty bad paranormal ones too.

Some of these books include but are not limited to:

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Bad Taste In Boys by Carrie Harris

The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

The Locket by Stacey Jay

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

I could go on, but I shan't. I'm sure you get the idea though. But this all really means nothing, cause I'm not that shallow cause this is what Amazon is for!

  1. YES to all of these. I mean, Anna? That was a freaking fantastic novel, I loved it! Do I love the title? Uh, not really.

Dad: So, what are you reading?
Me: Um... Anna and the *mumble, mumble*

Oh well :) Like you said, there's always online shopping!

  2. I can totally relate to The Boyfriend List! It's a great and funny contemporary YA book, but all my friends gave me the weirdest looks while I was reading it at school!

  3. Haha! So true. And I have to say that it's even more awkward for us non-teens. I've received several stares that basically conveyed the message, "Aren't you a little too grownup to be reading that?"

  4. Yep, we get a little embarrassed by covers sometimes too. But you know, the people ringing you up don't really care? It's all a blur to them.

When we're out and about, sometimes we just pull the covers off (if it's hardback) or angle the covers down (if it's paperback). Of course, Kristan has a Kindle so she often doesn't have to worry about this... :P

  5. I completely and UTTERLY agree with this list. It's the reason why I am such an avid online-book buyer... because I suffer from cover shame. I'd say Bad Taste in Boys is the worst offered on that list (followed closely by Anna..) because who on earth wants to step up to the cashier with a cover the ONLY features pink lips??

  6. The Story Queen - That always happens to me, not with Anna and the French Kiss but with other books! If the title is weird, I usually just answer with "a book."

  8. Generally, I don`t get ashamed of buying these books. I`m a shameless guy :D I can even buy women`s personal things from a shop :D However, I always purchase books online :)

  10. hahah I can see where you're coming from but generally I don't care what people think so I ignore the cashiers opinion anyway! However... I just bought the Boyfriend List from Amazon... no-one can see you there!

  11. Haha I don't really care what the cashiers would think of me. But one time, I wanted to get the Black Dagger Brotherhood series - which is an adult paranormal romance series! - and was so embarrassed because the covers for them are risque. Haha. I ended up buying them off book depository.
