Some Tunes and a Teaser

I'm about to head off to my local library where I volunteer every week for two hours. The librarians are really nice and I genuinely love it, especially shelving books. Sometimes I love it less, like when I'm asked to open all of the audiobooks to see if any CDs are missing, but either way I get to spend two hours in the library, so yay.

Anyways. It's Tune In Tuesday at GReads, which is something I love to participate in because music is my second love next to books. My picks for this week would be:

The Modern Leper by Frightened Rabbit

Bigger Than Us by White Lies

Wake Up by Arcade Fire

Hell by Tegan and Sara

Also, there's Teaser Tuesday. I just finished Shine last night, so I guess you guys are getting a teaser from my current e-book read, 13 Little Blue Envelopes:
"They left the smoke of the bar and stepped back into the fog. Keith walked her along a different route, once she would never have been able to find on her own, to the glowing red circle with the bar cutting through it that read underground.
"So you'll be back tomorrow?" he asked.
"Yeah," she said. "Tomorrow."
Not the most exciting teaser, but it's hard to find a good one on an e-reader.

(Oh and also, the winner for the Fated audiobook has been picked and I'm about to email her now.)

It's Tuesday!

Tuesday is a very exciting day for book lovers, as it has many many new releases. Here's the two I'm most excited for:

AHHHH! I'll definitely be hitting up the Books-A-Million on Thursday for these two. (I say Thursday because my family and I will need something to do to kill time before we go to The Avengers premiere, which is something I'm really excited about because JOSS WHEDON! And IRON MAN. I love Iron Man so much. Even if the second movie was, well, you know.) When You Were Mine also came out today, which Simon and Schuster sent me yesterday as a lovely surprise. It looks fantastic so I can't wait to start it.

Oh and while I'm doing Tuesday things, I suppose I'll go ahead and share a teaser with you.
"We, um--we should be watching the turtles." She's breathless and doesn't sound at all convinced. I cast a glance over the edge of the tarp. The first two turtles have left the nest and a third--no, a third and fourth are pushing their way up through the sand.
"We should." The apple scent of her hair tangles around my brain as my  lips brush her neck. She shivers in a way that has nothing to do with the temperature, and it pleases me in a way I can't even explain. That time, I kiss her.--From page 99 of Something Like Normal, by Trish Doller
So far I'm really enjoying this, and as I'm halfway through it I hope to finish it tonight. I've been a reading machine lately. Mostly because I'm still sitting a lot and reading and sitting happen to go very well together. I'm also reading Pandemonium, but I won't be sharing a teaser for it since it's a sequel and will contain spoilers for the first book no matter what.

There's also Tune In Tuesday, which seems to basically be a meme that gives me an excuse to share music on my book blog, so YAY. It's hosted by Ginger at GReads, and this month is the random playlists edition. HOLLA.

Turn Off This Song by The Lonely Forest
I've been LOVING this band, The Lonely Forest, lately. This is the song that hooked me, and even though I never go outside when I listen to it that doesn't mean I don't love it.

Heart's A Mess by Gotye
This song, like Somebody That I Used To Know, has an infectious beat and lyrics you'll want to belt at the top of your lungs.

Oh, and in case you're interested: I saw my surgeon today, and he said that I'm looking good and can return to normal life as much as I feel comfortable doing, so woooo! Can you see why I'm (obviously) in a good mood?

Teaser Tuesday (9/13/11)

"Har. Bloody. Har."
He smiles. "Oh, I see. Known me less than a day and teasing me about my accent. What's next? Care to discuss the state of my hair? My height? My trousers?"
Trousers. Honestly."--Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Teaser Tuesday (5/24/11)

Miz B hosts Teaser Tuesday every week, check her out for the official rules.

"Jonah Griggs.
Not just a name but a state of mind I never want to revisit, although I do keep him at the back of my mind for those times I get my hopes raised about something. So then I can slap myself into reality and remind myself of what happens when you let someone into your sacred space. Jonah Griggs is my second reminder to never ever trust another human being."--From page 54 of Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

My review for this should be up soon enough.

Teaser Tuesday (2/8/11)

First teaser of the year!

Woo!

Anyways.

"Steel struck steel, moving too fast for Jill to feel it much. Her hand was already turning the sword to its next motion, to counter the Texan's concerted attack."--from page 3 of Steel by Carrie Vaughn

Ooooh attack of the Texan! Just got this one yesterday from ATWT and haven't really gotten a chance to start it. Excited, though.

Teaser Tuesday (12/7/10)

I've barely had any time to read this week, but I already know this book's gonna rock.

"'Iceland?" My voice squeaks. I try to maintain my composure. "You want to go to Iceland? In the winter? In the middle of all of this pixie craziness? We can't do that. We have to keep people safe. We can't just up and leave and go to freaking Iceland.'"--Page 54 of Entice by Carrie Jones.

By the way, I did an interview with Carrie last year that I'm particularly proud of, if you wanna check that out.

Teaser Tuesday (10/5/10)

I've been doing very little reading lately. I got no reading done at the beach (hey, you gotta live out of books some too, right?), and have this brit lit class that requires quite some attention, and just plain running around. Summer is over, sadly. Anyways, here's my teaser:

"And then he saw it, a spark in the distance. He didn't dare follow closely. No. He'd run again. That was all he could do. Don't think, don't breathe, just run, as fast as he could."-Page 29 of Arson by Estevan Vega

Teaser Tuesday (Sept. 21, '10)

Teaser Tuesday's hosted by Should Be Reading. My teaser:

"Funny thing, your brain,
how it always functions on one
level or another. How, even stuck in
some sort of subconscious limbo, it works
your lungs, your muscle twitches, your heart;
in fact, in symphony with your heart, allowing it
to feel love. Pain. Jealous. Guilt. I wonder if it's the
same for people, lost in comas. Is there really such a thing as

brain death?"--Page 199 of Crank by Ellen Hopkins. (It's very grabbing.)http://www.mylivesignature.com/signatures/85705/bergquistorama/7a79d124891e43155b9d4b2ccb5c72df.png

Teaser Tuesday (8/10/2010)

I took a short break from review books (trust me, it was in the best interest for me AND those who've sent me books to review) and picked this up.

""The Sisterhood has it wrong," he says. "It's not about surviving. It should be about love. When you know love...that's what makes life worth it. When you live with it every day. Wake up with it, hold on to it during the thunder and after a nightmare. When love is your refuge from the death that surrounds us all and when it fills you so tight that you can't express it." He rocks forward and backward as tears stream down his face. Around us the Unconsecrated continue their moaning."--Page 155 of The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

So. Beautiful. And sad....(Which describes this book really well, actually.)

Teaser Tuesday (7/27/2010)

I got Sleepless from ATWT yesterday, so I set Almost To Die For down started it. Here's my teaser from Sleepless:

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I told you, I get it, I get it. But you never just...I dunno. Peek in their underwear drawers?"
I give him a severe glance. "Surely not. You're not to disrupt their habitats in the least."--Page 31 of Sleepless by Cyn Balog

It's already good! I can't wait to keep reading.

Teaser Tuesday (6/22/2010)

So, today I'm doing something different. Instead of posting a teaser of the book I'm reading, I'm posting one from one I'm writing. I started it today. I don't want to say too much about it, but I will tell you that it's based on a dream I had and the song Wonderwall by Oasis, and the title is "Wonderwall". Constructive criticism is always appreciated! Here it is:

"Sam was being a dip. So I died. It's not the end of the world. Well, OK, for me it was, so I should be the one spazzing and crying, not her. Doesn't she know that it doesn't feel good seeing her this upset over me?

Thank God tonight's the night she'd save me."

Teaser Tuesday (6/1/10)/ A Survey

Thanks to MizB of Should Be Reading for hosting this meme! Here's my teaser for this week:

"Soon and very soon boys at school would start taking notice. Attention was slow in the coming at a school where boys thought that Charlie's Angels starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and some Asian chick. But a girl the likes of Naomi did not go unnoticed for long.

So when she asked me if I wanted to go to church with her that night, a place I resented with every fiber of my being, my answer was a foregone conclusion."-Page 32 of Crossing by Andrew Xia Fukuda

I just put up a new survey for Shut Up! I'm Reading. It's pretty short and should only take up a minute of your time, so if you'd take it then I'd really appreciate it.

Teaser Tuesday (5/11/10)

Here's my teaser for today:

"I feel myself blushing. "No big deal," I stammer. "I must have seemed kind of psycho." I don't want to pull my hand away so I wait for him to drop it. He holds on for a moment. Then he lets go and gives me a big smile. If I look at him any longer, I swear I'll blurt out I LOVE YOU! So I turn away, becoming very interested in the upholstery on the chair next to me." - Page 147 of Prophecy of Days Book 1: The Daykeeper's Grimoire by Christy Raedeke

"The acrid smell of the smoke dropped her instantly back into the blaze that night with Trevor. Images and sounds flooded her mind, things she'd stuffed so deep inside her memory they might as well have been obliterated. Until now."-From page 212 of Fallen by Lauren Kate.

The book isn't bad so far. But it definitely has been moving slowly and I haven't had a whole lot of time to read, which is why it's taking me a little too long to read it. But hopefully all of that will change.
